Maersk has sparked a major round of layoffs, which among other things is going to have consequences for employees in Denmark.

It writes to Shippingwatch, and Maersk confirms the information to Ekstra Bladet.

‘We have announced internally that we need to save costs in the head office functions, and that it will also lead to terminations, both in and outside of Denmark,’ informs the Maersk to the media.

According to the media, there are approximately 1800 employees in the Mærsks head office in Copenhagen.

Maersk will not to Ekstra Bladet tell how many are fired.

Also in Germany, there are layoffs on the way. Up to 100 employees in Mærsks shipping company in Hamburg will be dismissed.

‘We have not put ourselves on a number, but it is up to 100 layoffs. The reasons are, a new it system and double functions, which we have identified, following that we become fully integrated with Maersk,’ tells kommunikationschefen in Hamburg Süd, Rainer Horn, to ShippingWatch.
