A hårproduktgrossist has been sentenced to a fine of one million dollars for having violated competition law.

this was stated by The Danish Competition and Consumer authority in a press release.

the Eastern high Court on Tuesday ruled that the haircare wholesale Icon Hairspa A/S has violated the competition act prohibition against binding resale prices.

the Company demanded that the dealers not selling the hair products of the brand ‘Kevin Murphy’ cheaper than the indicative price.

– When the suppliers set minimum prices at which their products can be resold for, so that eliminates the price competition between dealers. This can result in consumers being ripped off by paying higher prices than they otherwise should, says deputy director of the Danish Competition and Consumer authority the Bitten Thorgaard Sørensen in connection with the judgment.

Icon Hairspa must pay a fine of one million crowns and at the same time an executive officer of the company imposed a personal fine of 100,000 dollars for his role in the infringement.

the Court ruled in Næstved in February 2019, and the Eastern high Court has now upheld the verdict.

the Company is judged to have violated the competition act prohibition against binding resale prices during the period from the beginning of 2016 to beginning of 2017. Icon Hairspa required of its dealers of the products of the brand ‘Kevin Murphy’, that they complied with the indicative prices as the minimum prices.
