The International anti-doping agency (Wada) has sent the case of Russia’s quarantine to The International court of arbitration for sport (CAS).
9. december was Russia excluded from major international sporting events in the four years to have tampered with dopingdata that was sent to Wada from a laboratory in Moscow.
Russia declared its disagreement with the decision, and sent a complaint letter. This meant that Wada according to the procedure should report the matter to the CAS, which now has happened.
Already in 2015, concluded a report, there has been state-sponsored dopingsnyd in Russia. It resulted, amongst other things, that a large number of Russian athletes were banned from participating at the OLYMPICS in Rio de Janeiro the year after.

If the new quarantine is maintained, it means that Russia will not be allowed to participate as a nation at the summer OLYMPICS in Tokyo and winter OLYMPICS in 2022 in Beijing.
Russian athletes, who can prove their innocence – among other things, by not to have been a part of dopingprogrammet – must participate in large-scale idrætsevents as the OLYMPICS. But they must compete under the neutral flag.
At the end of december the head of Russia’s Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, however, optimism about the country’s official OLYMPIC participation.
– Russia’s Olympic Committee is a full member of the olympic movement, he said.
– Therefore, we have every reason to believe, that we need to put together a team to Tokyo, and we will do everything in our power, that the team are going to perform in the Russian colours.
