The creatures that expired at Uncle Bills Pet Center comprised about 40 dogs and 25 parakeets, in addition to rabbits and other creatures, the department stated.

There were several survivors — a workplace cat along with a”resilient” guinea pig, in addition to fish and several reptiles, the division stated. They had been taken to be assessed by an Uncle Bills Veterinarian.

Crews discovered the pet shop engulfed in thick, black smoke once they came, fire officials said.

The fire was under control within 1 hour, officials said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, officials said, adding that it is not clear just how long the flame was burning until the fire alarms went off.
