BOSTON , — The auction will feature jerseys, bats, and other items belonging to Pete Frates. Pete was a former college baseball player whose inspirational fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease led to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

According to a spokesperson from KBK Sports, the proceeds of the online sale, which runs through Tuesday, will go to the Peter Frates Family Foundation. This foundation assists ALS patients with their home care costs.

The goal is to raise approximately $10,000

There are several items available for sale, including a signed and framed photo from Bill Belichick, a Boston Bruins jersey signed in his honor by Bobby Orr and an autograph signed by Curt Schilling, former Boston Red Sox pitcher.

A Metallica jersey, Frates’ high school baseball jerseys and his personal Boston College trashcan are all available for sale.

Frates, a former Boston College player in baseball, passed away in December 2019, after a seven year battle with amyotrophiclateral sclerosis. His family and he were the ones who inspired the creation of the Ice Bucket Challenge and raised millions of dollars to fund research into motor neuron disease. There is no cure.
