U.S. U.S. Murthy hasn’t stopped worrying or questioning his decisions. Children under 5 years old are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Starting at my daughter’s positive testing, I asked myself the same question many parents ask: Will my child be okay?” Murthy posted the following Tuesday in a Twitter thread. “Could you have done more to help her?” Is this my fault? It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Surgeon General or a Doctor in these moments. We are parents first.”
Murthy also spoke out about how hard it was to keep his 5-year-old daughter apart from her mom and brother, even though he stated that they would likely be fine as they are all vaccinated.
Pfizer last week announced that it will delay its request to FDA for approval of its vaccine in children under 5.
Murthy wrote, “I wish a vaccination was available for my child as well as for all children 5,” It would help parents and protect children. The FDA needs more data from clinical trials to complete an assessment. They are still looking for a safe and effective vaccine for 5s.

According to the surgeon general, his family’s experiences have made him more aware of what divides Americans in a political crisis.
“The last few days have reminded me that, despite our differing opinions on the pandemics, we all want the same thing: To keep ourselves and our loved one safe. “I hope to recall this when I meet someone with a different view,” he wrote.
Murthy has always encouraged Americans to get vaccinated. He also recommended booster shots to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Murthy also advised parents to surround their children in vaccinated people and encourage them to use masks. However, he recognizes how difficult this can be for young children.
