Tesla CEO Elon Musk ordered that employees return to work for at least 40 hours per semaine. If they don’t, they will be fired.
According to Electrek, Musk leaked a series emails on Tuesday that contained information about the policy.
“Anyone who wants to work remotely must be present at the office for no less than 40 hours per week. Musk stated that this is less than what we expect of factory workers.
The billionaire said that the employees’ offices should be located in the main Tesla office and not in remote branches unrelated to job duties. Electrek reports.
Musk sent an email to say he would review and approve any exemption requests from the company’s policy on return-to-work. However, he stressed to his staff that “if you don’t turn up, we will assume that you have resigned.”
“Tesla will make and manufacture some of the most meaningful and exciting products on Earth. Musk said that this will not be possible by calling it in.”
NPR reached out to Tesla for comment but he did not immediately respond. Musk replied to a Twitter user asking about the leaked emails and said, “They should pretend that they work somewhere else.”
They should pretend they work elsewhere.
The billionaire voiced his disapproval of remote work and criticized Americans’ work ethic.
Musk spoke out in an interview with Financial Times to say that Americans want to “avoid going work at all” and compared it to Chinese factory workers, who “won’t leave the factory even if they work hard.”
