Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves has set up a relief fund for the families of victims of the shooting at Uvalde High School in Texas.
They shared their relief fund via social media under their non-profit, just keep livin’ foundation, which aids in the implementation of health and fitness programs at high schools.
The foundation released a statement Thursday saying that Matthew and Camila McConaughey had been in Uvalde since the mass shooting. It was a tragic loss.
“While the community’s spirit is hurting, the unwavering support of strangers and families is amazing. The town has begun the funerals and grieving process for the survivors of the shock. This will continue for all the children and their families as well as the entire community.
The organization stated that donations will be used to help families with grief counseling and burial costs, as well as other immediate and long-term community needs.
Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in a massacre at Robb Elementary School, Uvalde on May 24, just days before the close of the academic year.
McConaughey visited his hometown in the aftermath of the tragedy and issued a statement via social media. It didn’t mention gun safety directly but stated that “we are failing for the freedoms we enjoy.”
He said, “This epidemic is manageable, and regardless of which side we stand on, all parties know that we can do better.” “It is imperative that we take action so that no parent will have to go through what Uvalde and others went through.”
