MILWAUKEE — Six people were killed in January at a Milwaukee apartment. A Wisconsin man aged 34 has been charged.
Travis Lamar Birkley was charged with six counts each of felony murder and bail was set at $1million Sunday. Birkley was represented by an attorney at the hearing, but he declined to comment.
Although the victims were found with gunshot wounds Jan. 23, court documents detailing Birkley’s charges suggest that they might have been murdered three days earlier.
Investigators connected Birkley to the murders using cellphone data, which included a selfie that looked like it was taken in the basement of Birkley’s home. This selfie appeared to have been taken several hours after the bodies were discovered. Investigators claimed that Birkley was wearing expensive glasses as seen in the photo.
WISN reports that court documents state that Birkley was also admitted to killing six people during a botched drug robbery. According to court documents, the shell casings discovered at the scene were from two guns.
According to court documents, the witness also stated that Birkley was seen with cash, a gun and drugs that were believed to be belonging to one of his victims.
Birkley’s cousin is not named in the complaint. This case has not seen any additional arrests, and police did not provide any additional information Sunday.
