Jennifer Lopez is aware that it took a lot of people for her to get to where she is today.
The legendary performer delivered a moving speech at Sunday’s 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, while accepting the Generation Award. This award “celebrates beloved actor whose diverse contributions to film and television have made them household names.”
Lopez, 52, started her speech talking about all the films she has been in.
She said, “I look at these movies and I see all of the wonderful people I’ve been fortunate to know and work with.” “You are only as good or better as the people you work with, and if you’re lucky they can make you even more. That’s what I’ve been blessed with. Although I am not one of the women I have played as an actor, there is a part of me that is deeply true in each character.
The “Hustlers’ star acknowledged the people in her life who helped her to achieve success. She didn’t name anyone at first.
She said, “You cannot create truth until you have lived it.” “I want to give thanks to all those who have given me this life. I am grateful to the people who brought me joy and those who hurt my heart. I am grateful for the truthful and those who lied to my satisfaction.
“I want you to know that I am grateful for true love. I also want to be thankful that I was able to lie to myself, because that was how I learned that I needed to grow. I am grateful for failure and disappointment because they taught me how to be strong. She cried while her children taught me to love.” As Emme referred to twins Max (14), she was overcome with emotion.
“I would like to thank everyone who told me, even if I wasn’t there, that this was impossible. She continued, “I don’t believe I could have done this without you.” “I know that I could not have done it without you, the people who saw the films.
“You are the reason I’m here, and I love that about you.”
Lopez thanked Benny Medina, her manager, for their kindness.
“If there was one person who believed me from the beginning it was him when I first played him a roughy demo of a song I had written that day. He didn’t let me lose sight of my own potential. She said it was him, as the cheering audience applauded.
“You can tell when someone is by your side. You know when they are there when you’re most desperate and hopeless. It’s something you will never forget.” She said, “And you don’t want to let them down.”
“There were times when I felt so helpless that I thought I was going to die for you, but I loved you enough to keep going. We are grateful. You are the true meaning of ride, or die. This is the truth. Although it wasn’t easy, I wouldn’t trade anything for the world.”
Lopez concluded her speech by thanking Ben Affleck and everyone at home for their support.
“Wait for us to have dinner. She said, “I’ll be back by seven.”
