WASHINGTON — Enrique Tarrio, four other Proud Boys members were indicted by the federal grand jury for new seditious conspiracy allegations related to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Tarrio has been twice placed under arrest pending trial. He now faces a superseding charge along with Enthan Nordean and Joseph Biggs as well as Zachary Rehl and Dominic Pezzola. Tarrio was previously indicted in a conspiracy case.
According to the indictment, Tarrio knew of plans to storm Capitol on Jan. 6 and was involved with discussions about occupying buildings including Capitol complex buildings.
Although members of the right-wing Oath Keepers group were previously indicted for seditious conspiracy, this is the first time that the charges have been levelled against Proud Boys. Tarrio and Stewart Rhodes were the Oath Keepers’ former heads. The superseding indictment states that they met in an underground garage in January 2005.
Tarrio spoke to an individual about his plan to occupy “crucial buildings” (including the House and Senate offices buildings) in D.C. with as many people possible to show that “we the People” are in control. According to the indictment, Tarrio said that he wasn’t playing games with the individual. The identity of the individual was withheld.
The indictment claims that Proud Boy members also discussed storming Capitol Hill in an online chat.
