The California condor was a majestic bird that flew across North America’s western skies. The bird had only 22 remaining survivors by the 1980s.

The California condor population has recovered to about 100 birds in Central California, Arizona thanks to decades of conservation efforts. The Yurok Tribe led a large partnership that reintroduced the birds in Northern California this May.

Aaron Scott speaks to Tiana Williams-Claussen, Yurok biologist, about her long quest to bring the birds back to their ancestral skies. Tiana also discusses the importance of Condor aEUR,” which the Yurok refer to as Prey-go–neesh to both the Yurok peoples and the natural world.
