The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has opted to “open and widen” the PP in Catalonia to emulate the success of the popular in Andalusia, where the party has gained electoral space in a territory where it historically lacked a majority.

This is how he stated it at the Summer School organized by the PPC in Cerdanyola del Vallès, where he called on the party led by Alejandro Fernández to become a “useful democratic tool” that “maintains hope, humility, works more, studies more, demand more” to “connect with the people”.

Feijóo assured that he sees more and more Catalans wanting to “heal wounds” and “open new paths” and has invited his party to be a reflection of “that open Catalonia and that it was committed” to the “useful good government” policy. .

“In politics there are no eternal curses,” Feijóo exclaimed to Fernández, whose party currently lacks its own group in Parliament, since it won only three deputies in the 2021 Catalan elections.

The leader of the PP also expressed the “permanent internal contradiction” in which the Government of ERC and JxCat live: “One governs for his own and the other also, and nobody governs for Catalonia.” “Autonomy is not only making groundbreaking laws, autonomy is having the financial capacity to decide what we spend on and to have the money to pay what we owe”, Feijóo highlighted, who has contrasted his years of government in the Xunta with the management of the Generalitat.

In addition, he reproached the Government chaired by Pere Aragonès for, on the one hand, contributing to the approval of the General State Budgets thanks to the ERC vote and, on the other, blaming “Madrid” for political issues that affect Catalonia.

Feijóo took advantage of his speech to ask for “humility” in politics, since he assured that poor results reflect that “you have not explained yourself well” or “you have not correctly interpreted the needs of citizens at the specific time”. “If you believe that only you are right and the fault lies with others, then you will continue alone, when you believe that you are right but no one follows you, then you have a problem,” he added.

On the other hand, Feijóo claimed the variety of “styles” in his party to deploy “useful” policies for citizens and has endorsed the “model” followed by regional presidents such as Isabel Díaz Ayuso or Juanma Moreno, as well as mayors of the party.

According to Feijóo, “there is only one model of the PP, it is the model of Ayuso, of the regional presidents, of the mayors, of the councillors”. “There are as many styles as there are people in the PP. All those who have had responsibilities in the party and are leaders know that politics must be the solution, not the problem. Useful politics does not go out of style,” Feijóo stressed, accompanied in Cerdanyola del Vallès by the president of the PPC, Alejandro Fernández.
