The Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde has been run over this Saturday, along with two companions with whom he was training, by a vehicle that has fled. The events took place this afternoon on a Murcia road and Valverde was taken to hospital, although according to several local media reports, his condition would not be serious.
The Murcian was training when he was hit by a car on the RM-560 road, which goes from Alcantarilla to Javalí Viejo. The driver has knocked down the cyclists and has fled. Members of the Municipal Police and medical services have appeared at the scene and Valverde, 42, has been transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
The Movistar Team, the Valverde team, confirmed the accident shortly after and explained that the cyclist will remain hospitalized for a few hours, as a precaution: “Both Alejandro, who has undergone tests at a medical center in the area, and his partner They are well, without fractures or other serious injuries. Alejandro will remain under observation for 24 hours to verify his condition and will later be discharged”.
Valverde was preparing to participate in the Vuelta a España after having ridden the Giro last May, where he finished eleventh. The Movistar cyclist is the last Spaniard to date who has managed to get on the podium of the Tour, he was third in 2015. It must be remembered that the Murcian, with 133 victories in his career, is in his last season as a professional before retiring .
Hours later, Alejandro Valverde wanted to reassure everyone with a message on social networks: “I want to thank all of you for the support and the signs of affection that I have received today. Luckily everything has been a scare and I am well,” he explained.
