“There are clear facts” that show that “we are headed for a deep economic crisis while the government denies the evidence.” The first day of work of Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the Congress of Deputies in his capacity as leader of the opposition has served to establish his framework of action and harangue the PP parliamentary group to give the Executive the economic battle from now on so as not to lose the inertia propitiated by the electoral results in Andalusia.

The president of the PP has chaired a brief meeting with the groups of Congress and the Senate to prepare the debate on the state of the nation next week, which he will attend sitting in the seat that, until recently, Pablo Casado occupied. He though he will not be able to intervene due to his status as senator.

Feijóo has once again brought out his figure as a statesman, but with conditions. Thus, he has opened up to approving the Government Accounts, assuring that it would be “dramatic” not to approve Budgets for 2023. Although he has clarified that these must be “adapted” to the current situation. That is to say, if it is open to sharing the economic recipes of the PP, today very far from those of the block of investiture partners. And then he has given free rein to criticism.

“The government that presumes to be progressive and to leave no one behind is the most regressive we have had in Spain,” Feijóo assured in a speech that did not last 30 minutes, and warned that most of the households are in a “borderline situation” because “shopping is an ordeal” due to the “tumor of inflation”.

And meanwhile the partners of the Government dedicate themselves to “fighting among themselves” and “there is no sense of State in the Council of Ministers”, he denounced.

The general secretary and spokesperson for the PP in Congress, Cuca Gamarra, will be in charge of leading the intervention of the popular. What Feijóo will be able to do is, if he deems it appropriate, appear at a press conference before the media after the speech by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.

For the moment, the presence of the president of the PP has been confirmed for the first day of the debate, but there are doubts as to whether he will attend on July 13 and 14, since the plenary session coincides with the PP Summer School, which this year will be held under the title ‘Building a European alternative’.

Sources from Feijóo’s team acknowledge that the decision is not yet closed and that, therefore, any formula can be adopted, including that which only attends the first day of the debate. Likewise, they remember that this party act is organized by the European PP to assuage any doubts about the coincidence of these days with the State of the Nation Debate.
