More than 20,000 runners participated this Sunday in the Barcelona Marathon, which this year reached its 45th edition, with a record number of women registered in the event. A race that this year has changed the route, flatter and faster, allowing us to see a time record.

The Swiss athlete of Eritrean origin Abraham Tadesse broke the Zurich Barcelona Marathon record this Sunday, with a time of 2h.05:01.

In the women’s category, the Ethiopian Degitu Azimeraw, winner in her category (2h.19:52), was eight seconds away from the race record.

“My goal is to win and break the record in Barcelona,” declared the great favorite to win the day before, who also assured that, after having become a mother, she feels capable of surpassing her personal best, 2h. 17:58 achieved in 2021 in London. She couldn’t be, but she was enough for her to be the champion of the Barcelona event.
