The latest municipal Barometer of citizen opinion, carried out during the months of December 2023 and January 2024 with a total of 2,356 interviews with the population aged 18 and over residing in the city of Valencia, shows that the degree of satisfaction with living in the city ??is remarkable. According to the City Council, residents rate it with an average of 8.2 out of 10; Meanwhile, 71.4% of all citizens rate their degree of satisfaction with living in Valencia with an 8 or more, and 26.7%, with the highest rating, a 10.
The study shows that the city of Valencia has improved for 35.5% of people and the Valencian Community for 30.3%. As far as Spain is concerned, only 17.8% think that it has improved. Regarding the evolution over the next year, Valencians are optimistic. 40.3% of the people interviewed think that the city will improve, 38.6% believe that the Valencian Community will improve and another 26.4% think that Spain will improve.
As explained by the council, the study reveals that Valencians approve of the management of the City Council and the Generalitat with a 5.9, and disapprove of that of the Spanish government with a 4.1. Regarding the issues that concern them most, for the people interviewed the three main problems in the city are cleanliness, traffic and security.
At the regional level they would be unemployment, access to housing and inflation. And at the state level, the fundamental problems would be political parties and political instability, the management of the Spanish Government and job insecurity.
The Councilor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment, Paula Llobet, stated that “we are very clear about the issues that concern residents and we are already working to solve them. Most of them are problems inherited after eight years of municipal government of Compromís and PSOE. We have put in place a shock plan to solve the cleaning problems and the neighbors already recognize that the results are beginning to be noticed. And as far as security is concerned, the City Council is going to incorporate more police officers to improve the security of our neighbors.”
The people interviewed, on average, feel quite or very safe 93.4% during the day and 61.8% during the night. Although the perception of security is very different depending on sex.
In general, men feel much safer than women, and the difference is much greater at night. The rating of the safety of the closest environment, the neighborhood, is 6.8 out of 10, two tenths higher than the last time this question was asked in 2019.
Regarding the management of municipal services, those that get the best marks are the EMT (7), the bike path (6.8), the sports facilities and the Albufera natural park. And they only suspend public parking and traffic regulation.
