Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) wants the socialist mayor of Barcelona, ??Jaume Collboni, and the municipal government to speak out in favor of maintaining the Vía Augusta bike lane with its current layout. The Republicans will present a request in this sense in the Urban Planning Commission this week, in which they will defend maintaining the path they promoted in the 2021 budget pact.
“There have been doubts from the mayor’s office and the municipal government about this lane,” recalled the Esquerra spokesperson in the City Council, Jordi Castellana, who has defended this cycle path as “a central element” since “it connects in a sustainable way and by bike “uptown neighborhoods with the city center.” “It is time for the PSC and Mayor Collboni to look to the future and not to the past and for brave measures such as the Vía Augusta bike lane to be maintained and defended,” the Republican spokesperson insisted.
The Via Augusta bike lane, which the government chaired by Ada Colau launched in the final stretch of the previous mandate, is one of the elements that Mayor Collboni agreed to review when he took office. The socialists announced the carrying out of a study to find out if it was possible to replace this controversial route with other alternative routes, but that report remains unreleased.
“We are convinced that we will be able to guarantee the support of the municipal government in favor of a friendlier, healthier and less smoky city,” Castellana added.
