Venezuela has recovered an ethnic archaeological piece that is more than 2,500 years old this week, as reported by the country’s Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas. The Italian police authorities, with the support of Interpol, have delivered this male anthropomorphic figure, which is “evidence of the existence of ancient civilizations” in the country, the official said, quoted in a press release.
As he himself has assured, the piece has an “immense and incalculable cultural value” and has been able to return to its place of origin thanks to the fact that the country “is part of the international convention against illicit trafficking in cultural property of UNESCO” .
For his part, the attorney general, Tarek Saab, argued that events like these “should raise awareness in everyone because part of the legacy left by our original peoples is being recovered.” Saab called on cultural entities to rescue those “looted” works that belong to Venezuelans and that, in many cases, are part of the private collections of millionaires, or are exhibited in museums in other countries, including those that colonized Venezuela. this continent.”
“We are going to propose some technical work tables to locate where other previously stolen, looted pieces of our cultural heritage are, which may be in some countries of Europe (or) America,” said the prosecutor.
The figure is expected to be exhibited in several museums and to be part of the activities scheduled for October 12, “when the Day of Indigenous Resistance is commemorated,” the Ministry of Culture said.
