The Ministry of Culture and Sports, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), today announced the investment of 238,400 euros that will be used to promote film festivals in Catalonia.
This initiative is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which has a sum of more than 1,311,924 euros to help organize film competitions throughout Spain. The aid has been granted through the competitive bidding procedure for the organization of festivals and events in Spain during 2022.
Of the Catalan festivals that benefited most from the subsidies, DocsBarcelona stand out, which accumulated 40,000 euros, and D’A Film Festival Barcelona, ??which obtained 39,300 euros.
Other beneficiary festivals in Catalonia are the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival, the ANIMAC (International Animated Film Festival of Catalonia), the In-Edit Festival, the Barcelona International Women’s Film Festival and the Independent Film Festival of Barcelona L ?Alternativa , among others.
Throughout the country, aid has been granted to 64 entities promoting festivals and film competitions, among which are also the Seville European Film Festival, the Gijón International Film Festival, the Valladolid SEMINCI or the International Documentary Film Festival and Bilbao Short Film.
By obtaining this aid, the different entities commit themselves to the programming and dissemination of Spanish, community and Ibero-American cinema, as well as special dedication to animated films, documentaries and short films. Also, thanks to the funds from the State Registry of Emissions and Polluting Sources, the aid covers digitization and sustainability expenses of the beneficiary festivals.
This year’s grants have been distributed according to new ICAA criteria. Now the contribution of festivals and events to sustainability, to the promotion of effective equality of women in the sector, to the recruitment and training of new audiences and to the inclusion of people with disabilities is favorably valued.
