Google has surprised this Tuesday with a doodle dedicated to the New York artist Tito Puente. There are many who have wondered why this October 11, because it does not coincide with his date of birth or death, but the answer is simpler than all this. And it is that, during these next 31 days, the United States celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, whose objective is none other than to recognize the contributions of Americans with Hispanic roots.
In this sense, Puente is one of the main references, since the famous musician and percussionist helped to popularize Latin music in the US, his country of birth, although he was of Puerto Rican origin.
His nicknames were various, the most popular being the king of Latin music and king of the timbales. Throughout his career he experimented with multiple genres, such as salsa, pachanga or boogaloo. His merits, his extensive career and his influence led him to receive the key to the city of New York at the end of the 1960s. Years later, in 1990, a star was dedicated to him on the Walk of Fame of Hollywood.
Between his own productions and collaborations, he recorded 198 albums and highlights the mambo Hey how it goes, popularized years later by Carlos Santana and recorded, among others, by Celia Cruz, Julio Iglesias and Azúcar Moreno.
