In the Senate, yes, and in Congress, no… unless its president, Francina Armengol, resigns from office and becomes a “rank deputy.” That is the condition that the PP sets to support the creation of an investigation commission into the alleged corruption plot known as the Koldo case in the Lower House, as was done today in the Upper House, where the Popular Party has an absolute majority. .
Even if the PP votes against, the commission will probably also move forward in Congress, after having been admitted for processing today by the Board, which will submit it to the vote of the plenary session of the Chamber at an early date, but the popular spokesperson, Miguel Tellado has insisted that it is “incongruent” for the president to be “judge and party” and has demanded that she resign to preserve the “decorum” of the institution, because, otherwise, the transparency and impartiality of the commission would be “flawed from origin.”
Once again, the PP has extended the Koldo case to the entire PSOE and to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who, in Tellado’s opinion, wanted to position the former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos as a “firewall” when he dismissed him and who Now, as information emerges about the scope of the corrupt plot that benefited from million-dollar commissions for the purchase and sale of masks during the pandemic, it is “hiding” without giving any explanation.
“Only Koldo García and Ábalos have spoken,” said the PP parliamentary spokesperson in the Congress press room, where he once again attacked Sánchez, accusing him of “covering up” what he knew when the former minister was dismissed. . “I had information. He didn’t tell the truth. He knew it and covered it up. They are not four gulfs from the PSOE, they are people very close to the president,” charged Tellado, for whom the present is “the legislature of amnesty and corruption.”
“The innocence of Armengol – who appeared last week at the Congress desk to defend himself against the PP’s accusations – raises serious doubts,” continued Tellado, who understands that the situation of the president of the Chamber is “unsustainable in a democracy.” “modern” after it became known that during his time at the head of the Balearic Government, the health services contracted with the company linked to the alleged corrupt plot, Management Solutions.
“The truth will come to light sooner or later,” predicted the popular leader, who has insisted that Armengol should recuse herself from the debates, deliberations and votes in which she is one of the interested parties. “It is not reasonable to create a commission to investigate, among other people, the president of Congress. If Armengol resigns, the PP will vote yes to the commission,” Tellado has promised.
Regarding the “ramifications” of the Koldo case, the PP believes that they reach Sánchez’s wife, to whom Tellado has attributed a “conflict of interest” for not having inhibited herself in the Council of Ministers from deciding on the granting of subsidies to a company, Air Europa, with which Begoña Gómez had, according to the popular spokesperson, a “working relationship.” And he has also referred to the “Venezuelan ramification”, relative to the presence of the vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, who is prohibited from entering the territory of the European Union, at the Barajas airport. “The affected businessmen also participated in that event, which was not explained,” said Tellado.
However, the position of the Popular Party contrasts with that of the PSOE, which has voted in favor in the Senate of the creation of an investigative commission on the same matter despite the fact that the absolute majority of the PP did not make its participation necessary. As for those appearing, Tellado did not want to advance any names and has left the list in the hands of the popular parliamentary group in the Upper House, although he has indicated that Armengol would be obliged to attend if she were called.
