Celtic fans continue to wreak havoc as they pass through the Spanish capital. The wave of Scottish fans who have landed in Madrid to watch the Champions League match between Celtic Glasgow and Real Madrid has already caused some incidents in our territory.
The members of the National Police yesterday had to evict 40 radicals from an Albacete station who were traveling by AVE from Alicante to Madrid. Likewise, the Madrid Municipal Police evicted several terraces yesterday afternoon, All Saints’ Day, due to various incidents being reported.
As is customary in Champions League matches, many foreign fans begin to enjoy the local cuisine and drinks several hours, and even days, before the match. Once the intake of alcohol begins to affect these fans, incidents like yesterday’s usually occur, in which various establishments contacted the police for problems with the payment of drinks and other problems.
Agents from the local body quickly arrived in the area, in the Matheu passage and Victoria street, very close to Puerta del Sol, where they met hundreds of Celtic fans who were evicted from the terraces. The response of the fans was not peaceful and some radicals even threw glass bottles and glasses at the policemen, causing small charges.
The match will be played today at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium at 6:45 p.m., somewhat unusual for the Spanish team accustomed to playing European competition at 9:00 p.m. Only 3,500 Scottish fans have tickets, so some 7,000 fans will not be able to access the stadium but will be present in the surroundings and in the city, so a police force of 1,800 troops will be deployed.
