Risto Mejide (Barcelona, ??1974) never shakes his pulse. Critical, sarcastic but always sincere with his opinions, the popular publicist, writer and television presenter rose to fame after his essential role on the jury of the musical program Operación Triunfo. Among his latest projects, he stands out as a jury of the Got Talent program on the Telecinco network, and in Cuatro as host of the talk show Chester and the after-dinner magazine Todo es mentira.

Is playing a World Cup in Qatar, as your program says, all a lie?

This World Cup is yet another confirmation of the hypocrisy in which we Western democracies are installed. We can get fed up with condemning theocratic or dictatorial regimes, tear our clothes for the violation of freedoms and human rights, and, at the same time, also sell them our weapons, buy their oil or even play their World Cup.

Why do you think all this is happening?

All this happens to us for having advanced alone in the achievement of said rights and freedoms. It is what some call real politik, not to call it cynicism. A cynicism that each and every one of us practices. Because, having said that, I am not going to lose a single game.

What comes to your mind when you are named Qatar?

A Barça shirt.

His interview program with the most famous sofa in Spain returns. Who would you like to question in your ‘Chester’?

I would love to interview Leo Messi.

Who do you think will win?

I hope I’m wrong, but I think it will be Germany.

And who would you like to see win this World Cup?

Either the Argentine team or Spain.
