Ciutadans considers that it is necessary in the face of the next Catalan elections to form a “broad constitutionalist front” to try to open a new stage after next May 12. To this end, the permanent executive of the party in Spain has indicated today in a statement that she will try to seek “alliances” with other parties. In this context, the objective is to find a formula in accordance with the PP.

The orange formation addresses a complex scenario in Catalonia after the decision not to stand in the general elections of 23-J. Yesterday, the president of the parliamentary group, Carlos Carrizosa, indicated the party’s willingness to attend the elections, although the question is what is the appropriate formula. Ciutadans currently has six deputies in the Parliament, and the PP three. But it is evident that the cycle that is opening is one of growth of the popular ones.

In the statement, signed by the general secretary of Ciudadanos, Adrián Vázquez, the spokesperson, Jordi Cañas, and the president of Ciutadans and spokesperson in the Parliament, Carlos Carrizosa, together with the Permanent Executive, there is also a commitment to the alliance “with the civil society” to achieve this “broad and transversal” front.

From Ciudadanos, it is noted that conversations have been opened with the PP to address this issue. And it is also indicated that the issue of acronyms will not be an obstacle in this initiation of contacts. To date, the popular parties have been opposed to sharing acronyms, and it has been recalled in recent months that Ciutadans leaders have already been incorporated into the popular lists in the latest electoral calls.
