LaLiga is considering starting the next season during the week, specifically on Wednesday, August 14. The creation of the new Club World Cup and the reappearance of the Intercontinental have led the Federation, League and AFE to reconsider this anomalous decision.

If this date is confirmed, the domestic competition will kick off four days after the football final of the Paris Olympic Games. Furthermore, on Wednesday, August 14, the final of the European Super Cup takes place, a match that Real Madrid can play if they win the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. If the white team plays the Super Cup, their first league match must be postponed to a new date.

Calendar congestion is the main reason why LaLiga is considering placing the first league matchday during the week. This coming season there will be two more Champions League group stage matches, which will be played in January, when the bulk of the Copa del Rey matches take place.

Likewise, in December, specifically on the 18th, the Intercontinental final will be played, which reappears to replace the traditional Club World Cup. The Champions League champion will go directly to the final of the tournament, while the champions of the rest of the Confederations will fight to be in the final.

At first, it was rumored to delay the start until the end of August, but this would force the competition to end in June, something unfeasible, since the Champions League final is on May 31. Furthermore, a few days later, the final phase of the Nations League begins, between June 4 and 8, and, just one week later, the new Club World Cup takes place in the United States, between June 15 and July 13.
