It has been more than a decade, 11 years to be exact, that the Barcelona restaurant 7 Portes (Paseo Isabel II, 14) organizes the Sopars Lírics series to combine culture and gastronomy in a few unique evenings. The event allows to present the voices of young talents, aspiring opera singers, from here and from the entire international scene, who this season will be represented by the Colombian mezzo-soprano Yeraldin León, the Serbian baritone Milan Perisic or the San Luqueño bass Gonzalo Ruiz, among others (in each meeting there will be surprise performances).
This year there will be three dinners, on March 21, April 25 and May 30. The latter will be a tribute to Roger Alier, who for the first time in eleven years will no longer receive diners sitting at the piano as he did in each of the meetings of the cycle that he founded in 2013. The music critic and historian of the genre operatic passed away in June and the restaurant and the young singers that he encouraged and who have passed by there during each season have decided to meet again – those who have found a space in their agenda – in his memory.
The emblematic establishment will combine music with gastronomy through a menu of classic and seasonal dishes, with some of those endangered preparations that Paco Solé Parellada keeps alive on the menu, which will be paired with a lyrical menu made up of six opera arias, accompanied by the pianist Josep Buforn.
During its 187 years of history, the 7 Portes has welcomed great figures of the artistic scene, such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, García Lorca, Montserrat Caballé, Salvador Dalí and Maria Callas, to name a few, and music has always been very present in the business – the piano that presides over the entrance already serves as an indicator. His contribution to Catalan culture is immense, both culinary and artistic, and we celebrate that his Sopars Lírics continue to nourish our souls for another year.
