One of the firm promises of Mexican motorsports died last Sunday, January 29, after suffering a fatal traffic accident, nothing to do with the practice of his work. Federico Gutiérrez Hoppe lost his life in this way when he was only 17 years old.

The tragic event took place in the State of Mexico, on the highway between Valle de Bravo and Toluca, when his car, a yellow Porsche, collided with a truck, a white Ford Explorer. According to some reports, one of the vehicles invaded the opposite road causing a head-on collision.

The authorities of Villa Victoria, the municipality where the accident occurred, confirmed that up to four people were involved, three of whom were transferred to various hospitals.

Apart from the pilot, among the injured was his brother, Max Gutiérrez, who was traveling in the car with Federico. Max also sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition after being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Federico Gutiérrez Hoppe was competing in the Nascar Mexico Series with the Telmex Telcel team. It was the account of the competition, precisely, that confirmed the terrible news: “Nascar Mexico Series joins the grief of the Gutiérrez Family, for the departure of our driver and friend Federico Gutiérrez Hoppe.” His team also joined the family duel and the entire engine family.

Fico, as he was popularly known, made his debut in the Nascar Challenge in 2022, taking the rookie of the year award, although his beginnings behind the wheel date back to 2010, when he already competed in his first kart championships both in his native Mexico and in Spain. He would achieve up to six SuperKart championship titles.
