Badalona City Council (Barcelonés Nord) has again set a date for the reopening of the Can Casacuberta library, closed for more than three years, after correcting the deficiencies that forced its closure. The opening will be on February 13.

Next Monday, February 13, the Can Casacuberta Urban Central Library reopens its doors to the public. Its opening hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The reopening of this facility, located at 48 Mossèn Anton Romeu street in the Center neighborhood and which had to close in December 2019, does not yet include the children’s room, which will come into operation when the tasks of adapting the space to evacuation and safety regulations. This service will continue to be provided on a provisional basis in the Josep Uclés Room of the El Carme Cultural Center (78 Francesc Layret Street), where the programming of children’s activities, loan service and reading room are carried out.

The Can Casacuberta Library reopens after carrying out actions such as the installation of a new boiler and air conditioning unit; increase in plugs and more lighting; accessibility improvements with a new elevator access to the first floor; decorative improvements to the environment with a new mosaic in the fountain and the installation of interior greenery; the expansion of the bibliographic collection and a new prominent space for the local collection with the creation of a mural that will begin on Monday the 13th by the local artist artistically known as Spogo, whose process will last about five days and can be follow live (from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

Can Casacuberta reopens its doors with an outstanding novelty since the self-lending service is implemented, a tool that modernizes and streamlines this service since it is the users who can carry out the management through the machines intended for this use.

Despite the reopening to the public, there are still works to be finished, such as repairing the roof to prevent leaks; the renovation of the library furniture and the aforementioned adaptation of the children’s room.

The Councilor for Culture and Mobility, Anna Maria Lara, stated that “the opening of the Can Casacuberta library was one of the main objectives of our mandate. There have been many obstacles, but thanks to tireless work we have been able to open essential equipment in the social cohesion of the city”. However, the mayor has added that “the lack of maintenance of the equipment, in reference to previous political legislatures, means that it is not in an optimal state.”
