On two occasions, the JuntsxCat spokesperson in Congress, Míriam Nogueras, has asked the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, whether the reform of the Penal Code negotiated between the Executive and Esquerra was intended to achieve the extradition of the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont and if the ERC negotiators knew of that claim. But the head of the Executive has used sarcasm to avoid the answer before the smile of the parliamentary spokesman for the Republicans, Gabriel Rufián.
“I detect a certain tension between you and ERC, allow me the sarcasm”, Sánchez warned in his first response to Nogueras in the control session of the Government in plenary session of Congress, to defend that Spain “is a full democracy” and cite for the second time in a control session the recent report by The Economist magazine that confirms this. “Spanish democracy, with its imperfections, is a full democracy”, reiterated the president, who warned Nogueras that “neither you nor your party believe that it is not”.
The Junts spokeswoman has insisted on the issue in the face of Sánchez’s evasion and has denounced that in Spain there is “abuse of power” and has cited as examples “the new persecution of 9N”, the Pegasus case or vetoing investigative commissions in Congress about the king or the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, article 155 of the Constitution, “the sewers of the State”, the opacity about the events of the fence of Melilla or continue maintaining a “fugitive king”.
Sánchez has snapped at her that “what is clear is that she does not know what an abuse of power is” and has reproached her for “longing for” the situation of 2017. At this point, the president has once again defended his policy of reunion in Catalonia and has quoted the former president Artur Mas, who yesterday said that “the independence project is in descent” to point out that if there is something that is worse than in 2017 it is the independence movement and that this should lead Junts to reflect. “Go back to politics and do not continue in the anti-politics in which you have installed yourself, which is giving your party so little benefit and helping Catalan society so little,” he added.
