Throughout his life, Michael Jackson was always targeted by the press beyond being the king of pop. The sentimental life of the singer has been in the spotlight and has covered magazine covers and hours of television. From his wife, Lisa-Marie Presley, his second marriage with his dermatologist Debbie Rowe or his relationship with Brooke Shields, there are many women who have passed through the life of the Thriller singer. However, there was one, with whom he was in love, that he could not conquer: Princess Diana of Wales.

Michael’s bodyguard, Matt Fiddes, has given an interview to the British newspaper Daily Star where he confesses that “the singer was crazy about Princess Diana and wanted to make her his wife.” Some statements that bring to light one of the best kept secrets of the American and that he would have taken to the grave if it were not for Fiddes.

“Michael told me that he loved her, that he was in love with her and that he wanted to marry her. He told me that she was his ideal wife”, thus confirms Fiddes the singer’s feelings towards the wife of the current King Carlos III. An impossible platonic love of which Jackson was aware, which, according to his ex-bodyguard, he considered something unattainable.

However, they are not the only statements that affirm this infatuation. The filtered recording of a conversation between her great friend and confidante, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, and the king of pop, left all her feelings in view: “He loved her very much. She was my type, without a doubt “.

What is undoubted is the friendship that existed between Michael Jackson and Diana of Wales. The princess and the singer met during Michael’s Bad tour presentation in London in 1988. “From that meeting a strong friendship grew between the couple, who had long conversations into the wee hours of the morning,” says Matt Fiddes.

Among his confessions, Fiddes assures that Jackson spent thousands of pounds on late-night phone calls to Kensington Palace to be able to speak with Lady Diana. And it is that, according to what he says, he hoped that this beautiful friendship that had been forged in that presentation would end up becoming a real love, against Prince Charles, who considered that he was “jealous” and saw him “as a threat”.

In the interview given to the British newspaper, Matt Fiddes affirms that the bond that Michael felt towards Diana was immediate and that “they were both very shy people and he loved her, he wanted to marry her.” One of the reasons is found in the connection they had because of what they felt towards the press. “The intrusion into private life, not having any privacy, the children being harassed. They both suffered an enormous amount of pain due to the role they played,” says the former bodyguard.

In August 1997, a hard blow came to the singer that made him torment himself. The death of Princess Diana in a car accident in Paris came as an unexpected shock to the singer, who had to cancel several concerts due to the pain he was feeling at the time.
