Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, current ATP numbers 2 and 3, will meet in the semifinals after having emerged victorious from their matches against Alexander Zverev (n.6) and Jiri Lehecka (n.32).
The Murcian’s quarterfinal match against the German was marked by hundreds of bees that invaded the center court and forced the duel to be postponed for nearly two hours, when only 9 minutes of the match had been played. Once the match resumed, the Murcian beat Zverev 6-3, 6-1.
The Italian Jannik Sinner has the head-to-head between the two in favor (4-3). He is the current winner of the Australian Open and the Rotterdam Open, and has accumulated an impressive 19-0 in his last 19 matches in the ATP (undefeated in 2024 plus three in the last Davis Cup). However, Alcaraz already beat Sinner last year in the Indian Wells semifinals.
The other semifinal will be played by the current number 4, Daniil Medvedev (n.4), who won 7-5 and 6-4 over the Danish Holger Rune (n.7); and the American Tommy Paul (n.17), who defeated the Norwegian Casper Ruud (n.9) 6-2, 1-6 and 6-3. So Alcaraz or Sinner, whoever wins the duel, will have to face Medvedev or Paul in the grand final on Sunday.
The Indian Wells Masters 1000 semifinal match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will be played this Saturday, March 16, at 9:30 p.m. in Spain. The meeting can be seen through Movistar and can also be followed live through the La Vanguardia website.
