Civil Protection has asked citizens to be careful and to keep informed at all times about the weather situation and the state of the roads before the entry of an active cold front from the northwest as of yesterday. The front will leave snowfall at low levels and a drop in temperatures, unusually low for this time in much of the Peninsula. In its movement from west to east, the front will leave precipitation, snowfall and a cold environment in the north and center of the peninsula.
On Thursday and Friday, the meteorological instability will leave snowfall at low levels (generally tomorrow and above 400-600 meters). The greatest thicknesses will occur in mountain areas, although the accumulations will also be significant in lower areas of the northern half of the Peninsula.
Areas of Huesca and Lleida will register accumulations of up to 20 centimeters in 24 hours, the same as in areas of Cantabria, Burgos, Soria, Navarra and Álava, with 5-6 centimeters in the same period of time. The drop in temperatures will be pronounced and unusual values ??will be reached for this time of year, according to Aemet.
On Friday there will be frosts in large areas of the interior, which will be more intense in the mountainous systems.
The drop in temperatures during these two days will affect Huesca and Guadalajara above all, where it is expected that they will reach 10 degrees below zero in some areas. Faced with this winter situation, Civil Protection asks to increase security and precaution measures, and remember that if it is essential to undertake a road trip, it is necessary to find out beforehand about the weather situation and the state of the roads.
From the DGT they remind that to guarantee fluidity and road safety, a series of measures may be adopted that includes total preventive cuts of the affected roads and mandatory monitoring of alternative detours. In the same way, the movement of heavy vehicles may be restricted, as well as those that do not have winter tires or chains, in addition to limiting the speed of movement and prohibiting overtaking.
