The works for the construction of the Gorg canal viaduct already have a start date. The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has announced that “after many years of delay, work on the viaduct will begin during the second half of April.” The construction of this 180-meter-long railway bridge between the streets of Ponent and Tortosa will allow the train to pass over the new Gorg canal, a 32-meter-wide sheet of navigable water that, from the Port, It goes 325 meters into the city. The viaduct will have a structure of 5 openings, with a separation of between 30 and 42 meters of span. The viaduct is scheduled to be in service in autumn 2025 and all works will be completed in summer 2026.
The whole of this work will represent a very important improvement in terms of the connection of the northern neighborhoods of Badalona with the maritime façade, through the Rambla del Gorg and the urbanization around the canal. At the same time, it also involves improving the connection of the Port, the seafront and the neighborhoods of La Mora and Gorg with the rest of the city; the construction of a new communication roundabout that will link the streets of Ponent and Eduard Maristany and an 8-meter-wide underpass for pedestrians and emergency vehicles and services along the street of Tortosa.
The execution of the viaduct works involves an investment of 15.4 million euros, according to the agreement signed between ADIF, the public entity dependent on the State that manages the railway infrastructure, the Badalona City Council and Marina Badalona. Marina Badalona, ??the public entity owned by the City Council and the Generalitat in charge of the management and exploitation of the Port of Badalona, ??contributes €10.5M and the Badalona City Council participates with €4.9M. The agreement also incorporates the investment by ADIF of €3.3M in improvements to the railway infrastructure between Sant Adrià del Besòs and Badalona. The works are carried out by the Comsa-Dragados Temporary Business Union (UTE) and include the work necessary for the construction of the provisional diversion of the railway tracks, an essential work so as not to interrupt the train service of the Barcelona-Mataró-Maçanet line -Massanes, while the viaduct is being built.
With the Gorg Canal connected to the port, in the summer of 2026, it will be possible to create new moorings for 200 motor boats up to 15 meters in length. Around the canal, 4,000 m2 of nautical services and gastronomy stores will also be opened and a new urban boulevard will be created.
