Congressional deputies lose an average of three mobile phones and four tablets each year and return another 43 terminals due to damage, according to data collected by Europa Press through the transparency portal of the Lower House.
Specifically, from 2015 to the present, the 350 deputies of the Lower House have lost or had a total of 34 iPhone devices and 43 iPads stolen, of which the Chamber gives to each of the members of the chamber when they take office. And in these nine years, 348 mobile phones have been returned due to damage.
It was last February when the Congress Board decided that from now on it will not replace the cell phones or tablets that the deputies lose and that it will only pay them for their repair, deducting the following arrangements from their salaries.
According to data collected by Europa Press, since 2015, a total of 168 telephone devices have been replaced and 180 mobile phones and 82 iPads have been repaired.
The year 2021 is by far the worst year of Congress, with 84 iPhones broken and only 9 of them repaired, the remaining 75 were replaced. A figure that is followed by the year 2022 where of the 56 mobile phones that were damaged had to be replaced, although the reason for their breakdowns or replacements is not specified.
If we break it down by parliamentary groups, the socialists are in the lead in broken devices, with a total of 137, followed by the popular ones with 102, although it is also true that they are the two majority groups in the chamber. The next parliamentary group with the most broken mobile phones since 2015 has been Unidas Podemos – in their different coalitions since they entered the Chamber – with 36, followed by ERC with 16, Vox with 15 and PNV with 11.
However, the parliamentary group with the most lost or stolen mobile phones is the PP, with 16, just one difference from the socialists, who since 2015 have lost 15 devices, Unidas Podemos stands at seven, while the deputies of PNV or Vox have only lost one in recent years.
