Disney advances in the preparation of the long-awaited biopic on the life and career of Karl Lagerfeld. Under the title of ‘Kaiser Karl’, the series will review his milestones on the catwalk at the head of the Chanel house, the construction of his eponymous brand and also his most intimate facet, away from the spotlight. And although a premiere date has not yet been announced, some of the names that will be part of the cast are already known.

The Spanish-German actor Daniel Brühl will play the famous German fashion designer in the series, which will consist of six chapters and is currently filming in France, Monaco and Italy.

Brühl has brought other historical figures to life on screen, such as the Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda in Rush or the politician Matthias Erzberger in All Quiet on the Front.

The miniseries will show some of the golden moments of French fashion in the 80s and 90s as well as its greatest exponents, including Yves Saint Laurent. The biopic will not refrain from dealing with the rivalry between Lagerfeld and the legendary French designer, as well as the most tragic romances of the kaiser of fashion, the riotous parties of luxury and the unexpected bond between him and his cat.

The couturier, who would have turned 89 on September 10, died in Paris in 2019 at the age of 85 due to a disease that affected his prostate. Among his great milestones in the fashion industry are his long-standing creative direction of the Chanel house, Fendi and also the creation of his eponymous firm that is still in operation today after his death.
