Junts per Catalunya has vindicated this Friday “a country model” that favors Catalonia to recover its competitiveness and once again be an economic engine in the Iberian Peninsula and in Europe as a whole. This has been pointed out by the former Minister of Economy and Hisenda and member of the party leadership, Jaume Giró, who has closed a training day on regional financing taxation, municipal financing, taxation and fiscal deficit held at Llotja de Mar, in Barcelona . “We have lost competitiveness due to the fiscal deficit and the investment deficit, but also due to the country’s model”, he asserted.

After putting on the table the fiscal and investment deficit, the little execution of the central government and other similar aspects, Giró has indicated that Cstalunya “cannot be limited to the speech of the complaint, the injustice”. “It is urgently necessary to once again defend the country model that has led Catalonia to be an advanced and competitive country in Europe and the economic engine of the peninsula”, he remarked.

“We cannot allow the necessary and legitimate discourse of vindication and denunciation of the grievance to hijack other dimensions of the discourse that must be put on the table”, pointed out Giró, who went on to affirm that “it is necessary to vindicate the efficiency, competence and coherence of the rulers and the narrow margin of maneuver” of self-government that cannot be “underestimated”. “It is not incompatible to denounce injustices with competently managing the resources that we have,” she added.

In this sense, he has considered that “a good strategy to gain muscle is to manage impeccably and convince the Catalans” that they know how to “manage the resources well” at their disposal.

In addition, the ex-minister has demanded that the central government publish the fiscal balances, which reveal the tax contribution of the territories and what they receive in exchange each year, and has claimed that Esquerra Republicana that in the negotiations with the central Executive of the budgets general government makes transparency in this matter a condition.

Today, for the first time since she resigned from Barcelona’s candidacy and from all her public and organic posts last year, Elsa Artadi once again took part in a Junts event to address taxation in Catalonia and the ability of the Generalitat in this field.

The formation has held a day in the Llotja de Mar focused on the economic question, aimed at intermediate cadres and local leaders, in which the president of the party, Laura Borràs, and the general secretary, Jordi Turull, have intervened at first. Afterwards, the spokeswoman for JxCat in the Congress of Deputies, Miriam Nogueras, took the floor during the morning; the speaker in the Senate, Josep Lluís Cleries, the deputies of the Parliament Ramon Tremosa and Joan Canadell, the senator and mayor of Port de la Selva, Josep Maria Cervera; the president of Junts en Girona, who is councilor of finance in the Girona City Council and is in the provincial council, Maria Àngels Planas; and the councilor of the Hacienda of Reus, Mariluz Caballero. Giró was in charge of putting the finishing touches on the event.

Likewise, Dr. Joan B-Casas, former dean of the College of Economists of Catalonia and member of Economists for Welfare, also took the floor; Dr. Núria Bosch, professor of Public Finance at the University of Barcelona; and Dr. Joaquim Solé, professor of Public Finance at the University of Barcelona.
