Those who had planned to visit the Sau swamp this weekend, which has not been seen with so little water since 1990, can save themselves the trip. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has restricted access to the reservoir, which yesterday was below 10% of its maximum capacity, for a period of three weeks, for two reasons. First of all, they want to avoid that the interest that arouses the swamp under minimum ends up causing traffic collapses in the area. But the measure has also been adopted so as not to put the safety of visitors at risk. At the edge of the sheet of water, dense mud accumulates that “is dangerous” for both people and animals, as they can get stuck in it. The mud mainly accumulates less than 100 meters from the water, where the land has not yet dried enough. In this swampy terrain, the feet sink very easily.

Two informative signs, located on the road leading to the reservoir and in the parking lot before reaching the dam, warn of the restriction. The ACA has agreed on the measure with the Diputació de Barcelona and the Ajuntament de Vilanova de Sau, a municipality which, since the church of Sant Romà has become visible every day, receives many visitors attracted by the landscape that is leaving the drought In addition, this week the work of removing fish from the reservoir began, an element that has become another incentive for the visit of many curious people.
