In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we recover from oblivion a bridge, which looks like the ones in the adventures of Indiana Jones, but which, despite its history, has fallen into disgrace.
The photographs show us the old bridge that linked the town of Olesa de Montserrat with Colonia Sedó to go to work and cross the Llobregat river.
As you can see, it is a fantastic bridge, in terms of design and structures, so it is very bad that it is in a sorry state and with very difficult access to find.
This bridge was very important for the people who went to work in Colonia Sedó. At the foot of the Llobregat, almost touching Esparreguera, stood one of the main witnesses of the industrial history of Catalonia, which is remembered today with a museum.
The large 1,400 CV turbine is one of the great attractions of the venue, a cast iron machine that “was the largest and most powerful in Spain and one of the most spectacular in Europe”. Currently, it no longer receives water, but “has become a historical object in the museum that reflects the history of the colony.”
Colonia Sedó consists of an old textile factory made up of several warehouses, chimneys, an aqueduct, a church with a school and several houses for the workers.
It was founded in 1846 by Miguel Puig Catasús, who built a textile factory next to an old flour mill that would grow rapidly until it became an industrial colony. The factory closed in 1980, as a result of the textile crisis that hit Catalonia at the end of the 70s.
