There are times when we do not have fabric softener left and we have to urgently put a washing machine. What can we use instead of this common product to make our clothes and sheets soft and smooth? We propose here a series of tricks and alternatives that can get you out of more than one trouble and with utensils that we all usually have at home. Plus, many of these alternatives are more sustainable and eco-friendly than our usual fabric softener fluid.
When you have put all the clothes in the washing machine, make three balls of aluminum foil about the size of a golf course. Next, put the balls inside next to the clothes. With this simple trick, in addition to making our clothes soft without the need for liquids, we will be adding useful life to our clothes, so the savings can be considerable. And we can reuse the balls until they fall apart.
A trick that comes in handy for coats and large garments, even for bed duvets. Insert a couple of tennis balls next to the garment. The movement of both will prevent folds and wrinkles from forming in the garment. Of course, before using the tennis balls with which your dog plays, give them a good wash before.
Who does not have vinegar at home? Well, this dressing is a good softener for the washing machine. Simply, you will have to pour a little vinegar in the drawer of the fabric softener. And don’t worry that the clothes will not smell like detergent: you will have used a chemical-free liquid for your favorite clothes and they will be soft.
This alternative is not the most ecological, but if we do not have aluminum foil, tennis balls or vinegar and we have to put a washing machine, the conditioner can act as a fabric softener without problems.
Baking soda is a great natural fabric softener. If we add a little vinegar to the mixture we will have an even better formula. We must add to a cup with baking soda six cups of vinegar. We mix well and then we will use between half a cup and a full one for a complete wash cycle.
Wool balls will save you up to 25% in the clothes drying cycle, keep different fabrics separate and soften clothes so much that they are an excellent substitute for fabric softener. You can buy the balls of wool in shopping centers and specialized stores.
