Badalona City Council (Barcelonès Nord) has taken the first step for the new cleaning and waste collection contract for Badalona. A participatory process has been launched that will collect citizen evaluations and proposals that will be taken into account in the definition of the technical conditions of the new contract. With around 22 million euros per year, the cleaning and waste service contract is the one that has the highest financial amount from the City Council and is currently being extended since it expired two years ago.

The mayor of Badalona, ??Rubén Guijarro, presented the ‘Badalona Neta’ campaign, which aims to encourage citizen participation and public debate on the cleaning and waste collection service. Within the framework of this campaign, an open survey has been presented to all the citizens of Badalona that can be answered from today until April 30, 2023 through the Badalona Participa platform.

The mayor explained that: “we are aware of the current deficiencies in cleaning in public spaces and for this reason I invite citizens to participate in this survey, the results of which will help us define among all the cleaning and waste collection services” to the coming years. The contributions and assessments made by the people who participate “will be taken into account to define the technical conditions of the new cleaning contract”, he added.

The survey is anonymous and is open to all citizens of Badalona. It is a questionnaire with 18 questions where, after indicating the age and the neighborhood of residence, questions with multiple, unique and also open-ended answers must be answered.

The participants will have to answer questions related to the separation of waste by fractions, the collection of furniture and old junk and indicate how they consider that selective collection could be improved and how to reduce incivility around containers, among others. The last question that arises is how to improve the cleanliness of Badalona.

To disseminate this survey, the City Council has published some leaflets that will be distributed throughout the city to inform about the operation of this participatory process. These diptychs include a QR code that allows access to the Badalona Participa platform. Along the same lines, announcements will be published in the local media to publicize this survey and achieve the greatest possible citizen participation.
