The Labor Inspectorate of the Generalitat has proposed to fine Vueling 30,000 euros for various aesthetic requirements only to its hostesses, according to El Periódico and sources from the company and the Department of Business and Labor have confirmed to EFE. Wearing a certain makeup or heels are some of the requirements requested by the airline to its hostesses and on which the labor inspection has focused.
From the company they point out that the sanction proposal, which is studying to appeal, refers to measures included in a style guide approved five years ago, some of them already withdrawn -such as makeup- and others in process. In addition, the aforementioned sources of the airline assure that no worker has ever been sanctioned for these issues.
Vueling claims to have eliminated the gender distinction from the dress code, made the use of makeup “totally optional” and has offered various shoe models, with options starting at 3-centimeter heels. “We have been working on our style guide and a more inclusive image.”
From the Department they have remembered that Inspecció de Treball proposes the sanctions, although later these must be ratified, which usually happens in the majority of cases. He considers that Vueling has committed a very serious infringement and that it could ensure his image “in a less burdensome and more balanced way, without affecting fundamental rights,” according to El Periódico.
