The BonÀrea agri-food group has grown by 25.4% this past year, reaching sales of 2,822 million euros in a year marked by inflation in products and services. The corporation based in Guissona (Lleida) claims to have passed 2022 “correctly”, with an increase in activity, income and profits.

A part of the important increase in billing comes from the “high general inflation of the products and especially of the fuels supplied.” The group has a network of 61 gas stations that has reported 705 million to the total accounts, with 21% more liters supplied. In stores, the volume of units sold has only increased by 1%, but on the other hand, the turnover of the human food line has grown by 10.3%, up to 1,318 million euros. The 560 bonÀrea stores have a turnover of 1,064 million euros, with an increase of 13% compared to the previous year. The rest of the human food distribution channels have placed sales at 254 million.

BonÀrea has stressed that it did not fully attribute the increases in the costs of raw materials and energy, or wages, to the prices of its products, which is why it reduced its commercial margins by 14%.

Other relevant sections are animal feed, which has reached a production of 1.4 million tons in 2022 and has generated a turnover of 602 million; engineering and energy activity (mainly 61 gas stations) 820 million; and agricultural services 22 million.

In 2022, the group has undertaken investments worth 148 million euros, 14% more, mainly for the new food center in Épila (Zaragoza), 60 million; the improvement of processes in Guissona (Lleida), 35 million; and 37 million in purchases of premises for new stores, including 24 more supermarkets. The direct workforce of the group reaches 4,431 people.

On the other hand, the sales of bonÀrea Cooperativa were 368 million euros in 2022, 14% higher than those of 2021, while its net result was 4.4 million, 18% less.

These sales are derived from cattle and poultry raised on the livestock farms of its partners and which are sold mainly to BonÀrea Corporación for subsequent processing and marketing.
