The father of the Canadian tourist who died at Ronda Litoral on Tuesday of last week in circumstances that are being investigated by the Mossos d’Esquadra came to the scene yesterday at noon. Time after time, Denny Donoso made the gesture of jumping over the half-metre wall that treacherously hides a drop of more than five metres, at exit 23 of the round, towards Llobregat. Since he landed in Barcelona, ??so a cousin told him that her son had been killed, he had not dared to approach the place. Devastated, he does not understand why his 25-year-old son rushed headlong. But the fact of being there for a while and praying in silence helped him to understand that perhaps Christopher thought that the wall separated two streets at the same level, and therefore he had to jump nonchalantly fleeing some alleged assailants.

“Is possible. From here it is clear that it is impossible to come running, at night, and see that behind the wall there is such a big drop down. All I want, on behalf of my family and my son, is for the Mossos and justice to reach the end of the investigation. We want and need to know the truth.”

Christopher Donoso had arrived in Barcelona with two other friends from Canada a week ago. The reason for the trip was to witness the classic, the match between Barça and Real Madrid that was played on Sunday. The three friends had traveled from Canada and were staying in a hotel in the Olympic Village. A true Barcelona fan and semi-professional football player in his country of origin, his father remembers him with a smile and dedicates some kind words to his son. And that recently the relationship with Christo and his other son, whose name is Denny, like him, had cooled. The couple, Chilean immigrants settled in Canada for many years, divorced and the man returned to Chile, where he now lives with another woman. His ex-wife also remarried.

The Canadian embassy in Spain and its consulate in Barcelona contacted Christo’s mother to inform her of the tragedy. The woman did not have the strength to travel to Barcelona and delegated all the procedures to her son Denny and her current husband and the young man’s stepfather. These days they have been in charge of speaking with the Mossos of the investigation unit of Sant Martí, with the head of court number 18 in Barcelona and with the funeral home, which on Wednesday moved the body back to Canada.

“It is not fair that such a good person and full of projects come to Barcelona to spend a few days and have his life taken away in this way. Because it’s clear that if they didn’t push him, my son jumped because he was running away from someone who wanted to hurt him. Therefore, this is also a homicide”, insists the father, practically motionless next to the wall of the guard.

Investigators are working to identify and locate five young men who, according to the victim’s friends, assaulted them to rob them when they were in Poblenou Park, next to the basketball courts in front of the cemetery. It was five in the morning.

A story that coincides with the statement given to the police headquarters by a taxi driver who was passing by and assured that he had seen the crash. The friends said they started running when they were assaulted and scattered, each trying to flee in one direction. When the danger passed, Christo was lying on the asphalt, at exit 23. He had fallen headfirst from a height of about five meters. He had been hit hard and had a cranioencephalic fracture. He was unconscious and had lost a lot of blood, but his heart was beating.

It was explained by a taxi driver and his partner, as well as a truck driver who had to swerve to avoid what he thought was a bump in the middle of the street and that it was the body. All three spoke to El Periódico and explained how the young man’s friends came running and desperate, and how the ambulance paramedics stabilized him and took him to the Hospital del Mar. At first it was reported that he was serious, although his life was not feared, but he ended up dying hours later. Investigators hope to arrest the assailants and finish piecing together the story of what happened. Christo’s father wants to get to Canada as soon as possible to attend his son’s funeral.
