What should have been a cast for a broken arm became a true nightmare for the family of a 10-year-old boy from Torrejón who, far from seeing the injury resolved, ended up in the ICU of the Torrejón University Hospital.

The reason, as revealed by El País, was a failure in the dose of ketamine supplied as sedation. The amount injected into the young man was recommended for an adult weighing 130 kilos, so the little boy soon showed symptoms of discomfort. First by adopting a “bit of a strange posture” and then “making some very strange noises”.

As reported by the aforementioned media, the doctors quickly realized that the patient had a saturation of “40%” which led to his immediate transfer to the Niño Jesús pediatric ICU where he remained hospitalized for 48 hours.

The child’s family has already initiated the corresponding claim for a value of 15,000 euros while the legal advisory commission of the Community of Madrid has estimated the compensation at 4,500 euros.
