In this series of photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, taken in Aitona, in the region of Segrià, we can admire the fields of peach and almond trees in the fall of the flower. Not in its fullness, but equally beautiful landscapes.
The peach tree is a small fruit tree, although some varieties can be larger and reach up to six meters in height. Its bright green leaves contrast with the pink to red flowers, as seen in the photographs.
Its fruit, the peach, with its inner bone that is the seed, is harvested in summer, while in spring, flowering is the protagonist of this fruit tree.
And it is that the flowering of the fruit trees (peach, apricot, Paraguayan, nectarine, etc.) turns these lands into a spectacle at this time of year.
Since almond trees can grow to a height of 10 meters, many are cultivated so that their maximum height is 5 meters, a fact that facilitates the harvesting of their fruit, the almond.
The color of the flowers of this tree changes depending on the time of flowering. If you do it early, they will be approximately white in color, while if you do it late, they will be pink.
In Aitona there are routes to walk and cycle to feel the wonderful sensation of walking among the trees and flowers full of color. You can go on your own or with a guided tour.
The main economic activity of Aitona is agriculture, where the cultivation of fruit trees stands out. Since 1989 it has had an agricultural cooperative.
