Shortly before 4:00 p.m. this Sunday, an earthquake startled the residents of Arenys de Mar, in the Maresme. The tremor was confirmed shortly after by the Geological Institute of Catalonia and by Civil Protection.

The location of the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 15:48:39 hours at a depth of 0 km at latitude: 41.59º N and Longitude: 2.56º E without having been confirmed by a specialist.

Social networks have begun to abuzz with comments about the tremor. “I noticed as if something huge had fallen on the ground” explains Esther, who lives on a third floor facing the Picòrdia beach.

The earthquake has also been felt in towns close to Arenys de Mar. Residents of Mataró wondered if other people had also perceived it, which happened in Calella or Sant Pol de Mar.

The last seismological episode detected in the Maresme was detected in Calella in 2021, with a magnitude of 2.2º. Before, another 2.3º was also noted.
