The retirement pension in Spain under the general scheme stood at an average of 1,530.90 euros in March, according to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Social Security. The trend is for it to go further, taking into account that the new registrations enter the system with a retirement of 1,623.69 euros based on the figures for February, the most recent.

The outlook is not the same for everyone. Many just yearn to reach those numbers. Because when putting the data on a map you can see the great differences that exist between one latitude and another. Going back to February, the latest available data broken down by provinces, Álava puts the coin and the coin, with an average retirement of 1,935.65 euros per month in the general regime, the highest in Spain, and Ourense, with the lowest (1,118 ,26 euros).

These data are an average for both sexes and only for the general regime: women earn much less, leaving differences from their minimum of 940 euros to the maximum 2,150 among men.

In general terms, the differences between provinces are explained by greater industrialization, the presence of activities with higher added value and a tendency towards longer, better-paid careers without so many interruptions. In this way, after Ourense, other provinces with lower pensions appear linked to the primary sector such as Córdoba (1,183.99 euros), Jaén (1,186.25) or Cáceres (1,222.57).

In the highest positions are the aforementioned Álava, Bizkaia (1,932.37), Gipuzkoa (1,877.80) and Asturias (1,765.02). The cradles of the big capitals are positioned somewhat behind, with Madrid (1,750.29 euros) ahead of Barcelona (1,604.88 euros). In any case, they exceed the average of 1,530.01 euros per month.

Looking by gender, the highest pension for men is once again in Álava, with 2,148.24 euros, followed by Gipuzkoa (2,135.31 euros) and Bizkaia (2,130.49 euros). Already below 2,000 euros are Navarra (1,997.02 euros), Asturias (1,984.43 euros) and Madrid (1,961.18 euros).

All of these are above the average for male retirement, which is 1,719.01 euros. Above that average are distant points such as Ceuta (1,757.87), Barcelona (1,890.95) or Burgos (1,955.72), to name a few.

The lowest are in Ourense with 1,223.07 euros and in Extremadura, since Badajoz (1,308.36) and Cáceres (1,312.70) are just behind. Except for Ourense, the provinces with the lowest pensions are usually from the lower half of the Peninsula, such as Jaén, Córdoba, Cuenca or Granada.

Among women’s pensions the trend is similar. The best repeat in the Basque Country and the lowest lead to Andalusia and Galicia. Thus, the highest are in Gipuzkoa, with 1,483.61 euros, in Ceuta (1,450.29) and Madrid (1,446.70).

The average pension among women is 1,232.25 euros, which shows a difference of up to 486.76 euros with the average for men. Such is the difference that the highest pension among women is still about 235 euros below the male average.

There are even retirements below 1,000 euros at the provincial level. The lowest are in Córdoba (941.37), Ourense (944.78) and Jaén (950.52). Nor do they reach a thousand in Castellón (980.80) or Almería (989.23).
