I am sharing in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia these snapshots that I captured today of the arrival of the winner of the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.

The Australian Nicholas Schultz (Israel – Premier Tech) won the first stage with a time of 4h.11:38, starting and finishing in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, after an attack in the last kilometer.

Schultz, however, was on the verge of being chased by the big favorite for the final victory, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who jumped out of the pack and finished second with the same time. Stephen Williams (Israel – Premier Tech) was third.

In the photograph we can not only see Nicholas Schultz’s moment of complete happiness immortalized, but also the enthusiastic reaction of the public.

One kilometer from the finish line, Schultz surprised with an attack that earned him the victory despite the reaction in the final meters from Pogacar, who was about to catch him.

The Volta will head towards the Pyrenees tomorrow, Tuesday, in a second stage of 186.5 kilometers that will leave Mataró (Maresme), on the coast, pass through the Coll de Coubet (1a) and end with an uphill finish at Vallter (special ), at 2135 meters.
