The pulse of Podemos with Sumar remains open before the act of Vice President Yolanda Díaz next Sunday, after the failure of Monday’s negotiation for a joint political declaration, which has transferred an unprecedented tension to the territorial executives of the purple party facing the challenge of 28- M. In addition to the managements of IU, Més Madrid, Compromís, Aliança Verda, Verds Equo, Més per Mallorca, En Comú Podem, Galícia a Común and the rest of the integrated organizations of the Túria pact – Project Drago, Chunta Aragonesista, and the formations of Ceuta and Melilla–, at least two other autonomous directions of Podemos, that of Galicia and that of Navarre, have confirmed their presence at the event on Sunday before the state executive of We can give a definitive instruction.

As for the Balearic Islands, the regional leader of Podem and vice-president of the Government, Juan Pedro Yllanes, has expressed his support without confirming his presence. In the case of Navarra, in addition to the regional management, embodied in the coordinator, Begoña Alfaro – who is present in the regional regions with IU, Batzarre, Independents de Navarra, Equo and Aliança Verda -, has confirmed her presence the current Minister of Justice of the Government of Navarre, Eduardo Santos, former representative of Podemos in Congress.

It is taken for granted that if De Miguel does not attend, part of his management will. The same goes for Asturias, since if the territorial leadership does not go, it is likely that the regional candidate, Covadonga Tomé, belonging to the sector that lost the regional leadership, but swept the primaries, will. And it also happens with Euskadi and Aragon, which could be represented there even if their regional leaders do not go. The phones between Podemos state and the territorial directorates were smoking yesterday. At the moment, the only directions that are in agreement with the leadership are Murcia, Castilla y León and Andalusia, which means that the pulse that the state leadership maintains with Sumar is generating more tension inwards than outwards.

Officially, the dissension between Podemos and Sumar before Sunday’s event at the Magariños sports center in Madrid – in which Díaz will announce that he will head a state list in December – centers on the assumption of an open primary format for the ‘elaboration of lists of generals, but behind this discrepancy beats a struggle for the framework. Podemos wants Sumar to negotiate the format of the candidacy in bilateral terms, as it is considered the most relevant formation in the space, while Sumar, which a priori assumes the primaries, aims for a multilateral negotiation with Podemos, IU and the rest of formations that aspire to integrate into the platform. Vice-president Díaz reiterated the invitation yesterday: “I would love for this event to have many people from Podemos and, of course, its general secretary”, she said, referring to the Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra

It is obvious that behind this pulse beats the dissatisfaction of Podemos with the way in which Yolanda Díaz has interpreted the leadership of the space entrusted in her resignation by ex-vice president Pablo Iglesias, and what they consider a mistreatment of the purple formation, of which she has never been part of, but to which she owes, as she insists on underlining the leadership of Podem, not only her ministry but also her vice presidency. Podemos has called a state citizens’ council for Saturday, 24 hours before the Sumar event in Madrid, in which it is assumed that the state leadership will give instructions on attendance at the event organized by Díaz. Nevertheless, the imminence of 28-M will be a political factor as or more important than the directives of the Podemos executive, since a good part of the Podemos candidates who are running for mayors and autonomous presidencies are in plural candidacies, which not only represent Podemos but also other formations, mainly IU, which announced a few days ago that it will attend, with its general coordinator and Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, at the head, with the general secretary of the PCE, Enrique Santiago. Those who have already confirmed that they will be there for sure are Mélanie Vogel, leader of the European Green Party, and Walter Baier, president of the European Left Party.
